![]() ![]() Two of the most common issues were that the glue in the handle was insecure (error in manufacturing process) and the battery cable did not prevent reverse-polarity properly (mis-design). The first Pixelsticks that were shipped to backers of the Kickstarter project had some first-generation issues. For now I cannot think of something bad to say about the build quality. Not only the build quality seems to be really good, the design itself is sleek and impressive. Kickstarter backers of the project had to wait almost a year for the Pixelstick but it is clear what Bitbanger Labs had been doing during this time. The materials used, the design and the construction are all very good. Fortunately this is the case when the two parts are connected they form a sturdy single piece.ĭuring the first sections of this review you can already have noticed that I am very pleased with the build quality of the Pixelstick. To maintain proper build quality it is essential that they are well designed. However, if connecting joints are not well-engineered they become the weakest link in the structure rather quickly. I am happy with the fact that the Pixelstick can be split into two parts because carrying a single two-metre-long ‘stick’ would have been rather impractical. To do so a modular system is used, which means when Bitbanger Labs (or you) would create some extra accessories it is possible to attach them as well. Things such as a hot shoe mount (for a trigger), the controller and the battery can be freely attached along the length of the Pixelstick. The first time you will have to mount some other components to the aluminium profile as well, but this can be left attached afterwards. Essentially, the Pixelstick breaks down into two parts of one metre each for transport. Assemblyĭue to the size of the Pixelstick (almost 2 metres long when ready for operation) some assembly is required. It feels extremely solid and well designed. As an example: the aluminium profile this has been created specifically as the base for the Pixelstick and it feels like it could be a part from a jet fighter. All parts and components have been custom created for the Pixelstick and you can absolutely notice this when you hold it in your hands. It really feels like a high-tech product. All other parts, similarly to the bag, have been designed with the utmost care. This bag has been specifically designed for the Pixelstick with great care. The Pixelstick came in a protective padded bag which can be used for transport and storage. With the Pixelstick this was absolutely not the case. It happened more than once to me that high expectations led to disappointment when unboxing new gear. ![]() Not only because it seemed like a great tool, but mainly because of the fact that I was expecting it to be way for me to discover lightpainting. It had been quite some time since I had been following the Kickstarter project and therefore my expectations of the unit were rather high. I have to say I was quite excited when I received the Pixelstick. Fortunately Bitbanger Labs, the creators of the Pixelstick honoured our request to send us a sample so we could write this review. All this sounds very exciting, but the big question is always how well will it work in practice. It enables people like me, who have little to no experience with lightpainting to make amazing pictures because the Pixelstick takes care of a large part of the work, leaving you with the possibility to focus yourself with the creative part. What is unique about the Pixelstick is that it is one of the first “high-tech” tools for lightpainting photography. ![]() This means that you can use any image and ‘print’ it in mid-air during your long exposures. What is special about the Pixelstick is that it is not limited to a few pre-set patterns for the LEDs, but instead reads files from an inserted SD card. By hooking the RGB LED strip to a controller that alternates the colour and brightness of the LEDs it is possible to change the effect the light has on the final image. If you haven’t heard about the Pixelstick, it is a multicolour LED strip that can be used to leave a trail of light on your long-exposure photographs. It not only seemed like a great photography tool, but also like a cool high-tech gadget. Personally, I am not much of a light-painter, but this Pixelstick really intrigued me. I have followed the project from day 2, to see if they would make it and how the final product would look. More than one year ago the Pixelstick was announced through a Kickstarter project. ![]() ![]() But I think a couple things - It was only plan Z. Candidly, when I saw the first cut… I was like, “Ooh, this feels a little too much like this was put upon Maggie and we took her power away.” And I found an ADR line that we put in that really kind of changes the effect of that. Although I understand it from a story perspective, as a wife, I’m like, “She’s his partner! She should’ve been in on this from the beginning!” Talk to me about why you decided that it would be the guys dealing with this until the last minute. TVLINE | Let’s talk about Maggie not getting clued in until the plan has been put into motion. Even then, I was like “That’s what we have to do…” So, we stuck to the plan. TERRENCE COLI | I started in Season 3, and I remember we were on Zoom, early days of the pandemic… You laid it out, and it was remarkably close to the episode that just aired as the finale. I let him in on that, and then it became this sort of rite of passage whenever the writers’ room started. I think I told very few people, certainly no actors, and then at one point I told James because there’s a couple things that we were doing, story-wise, that he was pitching that were really smart, but I needed to let him know I didn’t want to do that yet. And I love the idea of a series following two friends, Rome and Gary, who both have diseases, and one is able to beat their disease and one is not. So it felt like, in order to balance the scales and reflect the two different experiences that people could have with this rattlesnake of a disease, we had to go the other way.ĭJ NASH | I knew from the beginning I wanted to have a series start with a suicide that should not have happened and end with assisted suicide, which was the humane thing to happen. And the truth is we had two people that were suffering from this horrible disease, and one of them beat it, and the way that we know that life works is that a lot of people don’t get that lucky. Whether you love it or hate-watch it or whatever your relationship is with it, for a network show we’ve tried really hard to reflect the human experience as authentically as we can. It was a concept that we both felt was absolutely dependent on whether or not we earned it over four seasons, and if we hadn’t felt like that, then we wouldn’t have done it. TVLINE | When you say that you knew how this was going to end for a while: You knew specifically that Gary was going to make the choice to end his life on his terms? It was also a chance for us to, I guess, reconcile and process the last five years, give each other a shoulder squeeze and go out like people that had grown and evolved. Doing it together, once I thought about it, made some sense. ![]() ![]() We have known that this is how the show was going to end for a long time… So, for us, it was like seeing through something that we had been talking about on and off for four seasons. I was approached by DJ pretty late in the game, and he was like, “Hey, man, I think we should do this together.” And at that point, after however many episodes we had shot and all the stuff we had been through, it felt kind of like a Butch and Sundance situation that I needed to say yes to. Why did you want to take on that duty, in addition to acting, for the last hurrah? TVLINE | James, you co-wrote this episode with DJ. ![]() In separate interviews Monday, the men discussed what went into the decision behind Gary’s decision. The Rasp is connected via LAN and media was pointed at folders. On my computer hosting EMBY, the RASP is showing up as DLNA which is guess is or isn't an issue.
